Biologically Inspired Sensor and Actuator Laboratory
Our lab develops novel BioSA technologies inspired by nature’s biological systems, creating high-throughput, high-precision platforms for clinical diagnostics, environmental monitoring, and research.
Lab Vision
To be a global leader in developing cutting-edge, biologically-inspired sensor and actuator technologies that address critical challenges in healthcare, environmental monitoring, and scientific research. We aim to translate our innovations into practical, high-impact solutions.
Key Questions

How do we engineer nature-inspired mechanisms for deployable health and environmental systems?
Pioneering platforms like DePerio for diagnostics and PAH sensors for firefighter safety.

How do we select fabrication pathways that enable scalable performance and defensible IP?
Leveraging standard CMOS processes to create novel sensors, resulting in multiple patent filings.

What do end users truly need, and how do we engineer sensors that fit real-world workflows?
Collaborating directly with clinicians and first responders to ensure our solutions solve practical problems.
Our Research
We build biologically inspired sensor–actuator technologies by translating in vivo sensing and feedback into engineered systems. Using CMOS, MEMS, and microfluidics, we create scalable platforms for point-of-care diagnostics, environmental monitoring, lab automation, and industrial sensing.
