Professor Ghafar-Zadeh shared insights on prototyping and innovation at the Connected Minds Annual Research Retreat, where the BioSA team also demonstrated the next generation of DePerio technology for periodontal disease detection.
Professor Ghafar-Zadeh was invited to participate in a panel discussion focused on prototyping awards and innovation experiences, delivered to the audience of the annual report event on February 25. During the session, he shared practical insights on translating research ideas into working prototypes, the technical and organizational challenges of moving from concept to demonstration, and lessons learned from building deployable systems.
As part of the event, the BioSA team showcased a new generation of the DePerio technology, highlighting its capability for early detection and quantitative assessment of periodontal disease. The demonstration emphasized the platform’s translational readiness, the integration of sensing and AI-driven analysis, and its potential to support point-of-care screening and improved preventive oral healthcare.
