DePerio is a novel platform for accurate quantification of oral neutrophils to support periodontal disease assessment using microscopic imaging. The method involves separating oral neutrophils from saliva samples and then performing automated cell counting using deep-learning models, including YOLOv8. The resulting counts were benchmarked against standard hemocytometry and clinically validated to confirm agreement and reliability. The AI inference pipeline is deployed on a server-based system, enabling secure, scalable access for use across dental clinics.
